| Poor Juli looking rather tired |
All is well. Yesterday evening, I moved the pups in to the big pool, the small pool was already getting crowded and Juliette was having a hard time getting up and moving around without stepping on a pup. I figured if it was too soon and a pup got "lost", I would hear it during the night and be able to come to the rescue. After some initial fussing, the pups adjusted and they are amazingly mobile already. Developmentally, they are approximately at the same stage as Bridget's December litter was a birth (whelped two days late). Seven of the 11 pups weigh at least l lb, their pad and nose pigment is starting to show, and their little tails wag while they are nursing. I have swapped out their newborn collars for slightly larger hairband elastic collars. The pups have gained 3.4 to 4.6 oz since birth. Light Blue (black male) is the piglet gaining the most weight, although the two Purple girls (one yellow, one black) are currently the biggest pups. Green boy (black pup) is the smallest pup. Although the weight gains are fine, the smaller pups are already getting shoved aside, so I have started private nursing sessions for the 4 smaller pups. Juliette only has 9 nipples, and her single front gland isn't very productive. This morning I started the BioSensor early neurological stimulation exercises that will continue daily until the pups are 16 days old. Black boy tucked into the holding tub. You can see his little black nose.
Purple girl sleeping on Juli's paw. You can see the paw pigment on the yellow pup
(compare to the pics from Thursday).
